11/10/2022 0 Comments Impulse season 1 episode 4 summeryAs much as Walker likes signing autographs and representing his country, he ultimately believes that beating the bad guys matters more than doing it “the right way.”īut here’s the thing: “The bad guys” don’t exactly disagree, even if they carry Walker’s arguments to different conclusions. Not only does he help himself to a stolen dose of the Power Broker’s super-soldier serum but he also directly questions Sam and Bucky’s old-fashioned notions of what Captain America - or any hero - has to be. With this week’s episode, “The Whole World Is Watching,” the TV version of Walker finally catches up with the one in the comics. In the story lines that follow, Gruenwald and multiple artists considered the difficulties inherent in trying to be a good Captain America in the age of Rambo. Later, when Steve Rogers is forced to resign as Cap, Walker takes over. (He gets them from the mysterious Power Broker, in fact.) He first challenges Captain America as Super-Patriot, arguing that American heroes in the ’80s need to be younger, tougher and more ruthless. In the comics, Walker has super powers from the moment he is introduced. Through the first three episodes, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” hasn’t closely followed Walker’s original comic book arc. One, introduced in the 1980s by the writer Mark Gruenwald and the artist Paul Neary, was named “Super-Patriot.” His secret identity? John Walker. There have also been several heroes and villains who have donned patriotic garb in the comics, with names to match. In my recap of the second “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” episode, two weeks ago, I mentioned that in the decades of Marvel Comics stories about Captain America, multiple men and women have worn the costume and carried the shield.
